Knowing Benign Tumors and Malignant Tumors

Definition of Tumor

Knowing Benign Tumors and Malignant Tumors, Knowing Benign Tumors, Malignant Tumors
Tumor is tissue the body's growth, where there is an abnormal proliferation of cells. Synonyms of the word tumor are a neoplasm. Tumor in the form of mass solid or filled with fluid which increased its size. Meaning tumor is not the same as the cancer. Cancer is a malignant, while tumor there is a benign, malignant, or without any cancer potential.

Tumor occurs when cells divide and grow excessively in the body. New cells are created to replace older ones or to perform new functions. Cells are damaged or no longer needed die to make room for a healthy substitute. If the balance of cell growth and cell death is compromised, it will be forming what is called a tumor.

Differences Tumor Benign and Malignant Tumors

Benign Tumors

The term "benign" this means mild or not progressive. It said if the tumor is benign proliferative disorder of these cells do not invade nearby tissue or spread to other parts of the body, the term is metastasis. In most cases, benign tumor prognosis is very good. However, benign tumors can be a serious matter if they are on vital structures such as blood vessels or nerves. Therefore, sometimes tumor types require treatment and sometimes not.

Benign tumors are usually surrounded by a fibrous sheath (capsules) that inhibit their ability to behave malignant. However, many types of benign tumors have the potential to become malignant, such as teratoma.

Malignant Tumors

The word "malignant" which means bad and potentially deadly to the characteristics of anaplasia, invasive and metastatic. Malignant tumors are cancer, and cancer is not necessarily shaped tumor, where cancer cells can invade and damage tissues and organs near the tumor (invasive). Cancer cells can break away from a malignant tumor and enter the lymphatic system or the bloodstream. Cancer spreads from the original tumor to form new tumors in other parts of the body, the term is metastasis. Another difference with benign tumors, most malignant tumors is not encapsulated.

Specifically, malignant tumor cells may have a cell shape changes that contribute to their rapid proliferation. Many malignant cells also have abnormal chromosomes or genes changed, and they produce an abnormal protein. Many changes of properties of cells in malignant cells allow a pathologist, to determine which process is called "staging" the tumor.
