1. Onions

In a study recently published in the journal Nutrition, researchers fed mice with a normal diet and a few other mice with a diet supplemented with the onion extract.

Then when the researchers induce a stroke in the mice whole body group of mice that were fed onions suffered significantly less brain damage than the other group.

The reason is the presence of antioxidant enzymes such as catalase and glutathione peroxidase contained in onions. Both of these antioxidants can inhibit the formation of free radicals or reactive oxygen species (ROS), a compound that can damage the protective brain during a stroke.

2. Eggs

Choline, a nutrient found in eggs, chicken meat and kidney bean (red bean large) could protect the brain with age people who eat it. This was stated in a study published last year in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Of the nearly 1,400 adult participants were observed, researchers found that people with the highest intake of choline showed better performance on tests of memory and do not tend to bring out the symptoms of vascular disease in the brain that may contribute to dementia.

Choline is also needed to make one type of neurotransmitter is acetylcholine which plays a vital role in maintaining brain health and memory. The recommended amount of choline for men is 550 milligrams per day or equal to five hard-boiled eggs.

3. Coffee

According to researchers from the University of South Florida, USA, and caffeinated coffee may help protect your brain from Alzheimer's disease. In this study, researchers fed mice accidentally bred a number of Alzheimer's disease with caffeinated coffee, decaffeinated coffee or caffeine alone.

Researchers found that regular coffee intake increases levels of brain hormones booster ability (granulocyte colony stimulating factor / GM-CSF) were able to reduce the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease in rats. This hormone also triggers the production of new neurons and creates connections between neurons.

The key to this benefit is the amount of coffee you drink, and for that you need four cups of coffee each day.

4. Orange

People who eat two oranges or more every day for 14 years, the at risk developing the disease 10 percent lower stroke than people who ate less than 2 oranges fruit every day. This was revealed by a study in 2012, published in the journal Stroke.

This benefit is obtained thanks to the specific compound found in citrus and grape called flavonoids. These compounds may improve blood vessel function and have anti-inflammatory effects that the risk of stroke caused by blood clots can be reduced.
